Call for art in Support of V Day Petaluma

V-Day, founded by playwright Eve Ensler, is a worldwide movement to raiseawareness and end violence against women and girls. V-Day Petaluma 2009, an eventthat includes a performance of “The Vagina Monologues”, will benefit Sonoma CountyYWCA Women’s Safe House and Domestic Violence Services, as well as B.R.A.V.E.People’s services for women.
As part of V-Day Petaluma 2009, we are seeking local artists to create a piece inthe medium of their choice that is a positive expression of what the V-Day movementmeans to them, including alters (paying homage to a survivor or victim of violence, orgroups of women such as the women of the Congo), or artwork relating to women’sempowerment and prevention of violence against women and girls. Artists are encouraged to visit the V-Day
website, www.vday.org, for an understanding of themovement.
To promote the movement, our goal is to display pieces throughout the community prior to the event. Pieces will later be displayed at Petaluma CommunityCenter during the event, March 13 and 14. Pieces will be returned to the artist unlessthey offer to place them in our silent
auction.
