Performance art at the Petaluma Arts Center

“ArtsLive!” — the Petaluma Arts Council’s new performance and lecture series — promises a variety of literary, theatrical and musical events, starting this month.

The series opens Jan. 29 and runs through Feb. 1 at the G.K. Hardt Gallery in the new Petaluma Arts Center, 230 Lakeville St., Petaluma.

During the January performances, the gallery also will present “The Alchemia Exhibition,” featuring artwork by adults with developmental disabilities.

The performance schedule:
8 p.m. Jan. 29– “Listen and Be Heard,” an evening of poetry and music, hosted by Tony and Martha Cinader Mims, with accompaniment by bassist Paul Neal and drummer Carl Trent. $5.

6-8 p.m. Jan. 30– The “Alchemia Exhibition” artists’ reception, with entertainment provided by the Alchemia program music ensemble. Free.

2 p.m. Jan. 31– “Lil’ Red,” a play about independence and safety, written and performed by actors in the Alchemia Theatre for Life Program in partnership with the Predator Awareness Task Force. Primarily intended for people with special needs, the play also is
suitable for wider audiences, middle-school age or older. $5.

8 p.m. Jan. 31– “The Porter Creek Project,” a performance that features Nicolas Van Krijdt playing music on original metal sculptures, plus recorded sound and additional artwork. $5.

3 p.m. Feb. 1– “An Afternoon of Yiddish Songs and Klezmer Music,” performed by singer Alby Kass, accompanist Sonia Tubridy, and Jubilee Klezmer Ensemble members Paul Alexander, Phil Lawrence and Mark Peabody. $10.
