Mouse & Renoir at Pelican Art Gallery
by admin

Pelican Art Gallery is thrilled to host Stanley Mouse’s fine art debut in the downtown Petaluma location. If you are wondering who Mouse is, odds are good you’ve seen his work. Mouse started with t-shirts, hot rods, then exploded onto the music scene as the artist behind the Grateful Dead, Jimi Hendrix, Led Zeppelin, the Zig Zag Man and others. His 1977 album cover for Steve Miller Band won a Grammy. The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame commissioned him to do the portraits of 2008’s eight inductees. Now Mouse is stepping out of his rock and roll painting to the impressionist style.
Pelican Art Gallery presents this once in a lifetime opportunity to see his fine art work, accompanied by three Renoir sculptures. Pelican Art Gallery has on display over 70 pieces of figures, landscapes and a couple artist proofs of his poster work. Highlights of this show include paintings that have attained international status in Rolling Stone magazine and posters from San Francisco’s Summer of Love 40th Anniversary event. Pelican Art Gallery recognizes the value of this genre as the next phase of Mouse’s artistic career. This premier exhibit will run through June 15th.
Pelican Art Gallery’s Mouse/ Renoir private opening reception on April 1 was quite an event. Mouse and the gallery owners installed his work, while keeping the picture window and door covered. At opening time the work was revealed. The gallery was teeming with guests who saw, for the first time, his fine art pieces, mingled and met with the master oil painter himself while enjoying live music from Ali Weiss.
Pelican Art Gallery’s next event with Stanley Mouse will be part of Petaluma’s 3rd Annual Salute to American Graffiti: Cruisin’ the Boulevard. There will be a poster signing reception, open to the public, May 17th, 1-5 pm. Mouse’s rock and roll posters as well as signed and unsigned Freehand the Art of Stanley Mouse books and exhibition posters are available.
