Momentum of the Arts in Petaluma
by Art.Happens
Last Saturday, many of the business owners downtown were treated to the private reception at the newest gallery in Petaluma, the Dimensions Galleria at 115 Petaluma Blvd North. This is the latest boost to the momentum of the art scene in Petaluma. The gallery is a joint venture between artist Jerrie Morago and property owners Will and Jackie Mendoza. Julieann Anderson is also a key player in the business. The build out of the space was exquisitely done. Will Mendoza, also owner of La La’s Creamery (134 Petaluma Blvd N), is a contractor who invested tremendous effort/expense to create a wonderful atmosphere. From the walnut floors to the built in cabinetry, the venue is delightful for the selection of art it presents.
There is a familiar list of local artists showing at the new gallery including Roberta Ahrens. At the back of the gallery is an

incredible cracked linen floral piece by Ahrens measuring at least 6 foot square, with uplifting swirls of orange, yellow & red. Artists were beaming as members of the Petaluma Community Access conducted video interviews. The gallery includes both 2 and 3 dimensional art with an eclectic, contemporary mix. I was glad to see the sculpture by Jane McDonald included. There are fun fish, quirky cars, interesting jewelry, abstract paintings as well as some very intriguing furniture.

Owner Jerrie Morago indicated that the public opening will be held on August 15th. Morago also promised the focus of this business to be contemporary art.
Petaluma is well placed in the art world to emerge as a key art destination in the North Bay. With the addition of the Petaluma Arts Center last year and another new fine art gallery this year, Petaluma is one of the only growing art markets in the North Bay and is deserving of the attention art lovers around the Bay Area. It’s great momentum for us!
